Our History

The Illinois Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals Association was, at first, called the DuPage County Police Chief's Secretaries Association. The Association founded in February, 1999, when a group of 19 Administrative Assistants from DuPage County gathered for the purpose of encouraging communication among Police Chiefs' secretaries and support staff.

Our founders were:

  • Kim Yeary, Addison Police Department

  • Fil Lehman, Addison Police Department

  • Rayette Norlack, Burr Ridge Police Department

  • Toni Rodenkirch, Carol Stream Police Department

  • Marty Berkery, Downers Grove Police Department

  • Cindy Holmberg, Elmhurst Police Department

  • Sharon Perrino, Elmhurst Police Department

  • Kathy Zaura, Forest Preserve Police Department

  • Nancy Board, Hanover Park Police Department

  • Barb Richardson, Lisle Police Department

  • Barbara Huspen, Roselle Police Department

  • Carol Shoemaker, Roselle Police Department

  • Gail Ernst, Warrenville Police Department

  • Doreen Baker, West Chicago Police Department

  • Debra Reznicek, Westmont Police Department

  • Martha Barmantje, Wheaton Police Department

  • Debbie Hahn, Willowbrook Police Department

  • Eileen Schultz, Wooddale Police Department

  • Elaine Draut, Woodridge Police Department

In November 2007, we made the decision to change the association's name to "Suburban Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals (Suburban LEAP)" as the group was growing to agencies outside of DuPage County. By January 2008, the association changed the logo to below.

In March 2015, the Association made the change from Suburban Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals (Suburban LEAP) to what we are today, Illinois Law Enforcement Administrative Professionals (Illinois LEAP). The decision to change the Association's name would allow for agencies all over the State of Illinois to join. We currently have over 100 agencies in our Association, with over 120 professionals in our membership. In April 2015, our logo was updated while still keeping the original logo in mind.
